Bianca Patricia
Vast numbers of doormen take up their station night after night in the illuminated lobbies and entrances of Manhattan. Just after everybody left their workplaces and returned to their homes, the doormen are left behind in the lobbies of the city. Alone with their hopes, desires and thoughts.
At her nightly trips to New York the artist Bianca Patricia took pictures of the doormen of Manhattan. Every night thousands of men stay awake and get paid for their lonely presence so the residents of the city can sleep well. This poetic scene resembles an artistic gesture, an endless returning performance. Looking in the dark, lonely and introverted, these men are reminiscent of the classic idea of philosophers who significantly support the head in their hands, thinking against time, hour of hour in the lonelyness of lobbies or in the consternated narrowness of counter cabins.
Bianca Patricia passed her studies in photography, conception and design at the FA Düsseldorf (Prof. Gerhard Vormwald and Prof. Helfried Hagenberg). Afterwards she studied media art at the Kunsthochschule für Medien in Cologne (Prof. Jürgen Klauke). In 2006/2007 the artist obtained a scholarship of the DAAD for the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts (Prof. Yoshiaki Watanabe).
Since 2008, Bianca Patricia studies at the Acadamy for graphic arts in munich. Focused on photography in class of Prof. Dieter Rehm in the beginning, she attends to drawing, video, photography, painting and installation since 2009 under direction of Prof. Karin Kneffel.
Bianca Patricia lives and works in Munich.
